Since the Internet become popular in the Philippines in early 90’s, I remember it was the yuppie thing back there. It cost 90 Pesos per hour rent from anywhere. When our school had it open for student use in 1998, I was one of the first addicted to it. Geeez, I spend all my vacant time dordling in the IT building to use Internet. Even after class at 5pm, I’ll go home 2 hours after spending those times for Internet use. I even used all my free Internet hours and just paid using it.
So dad has to fetch us(me and my sister) up because I keep going home late. In College, as usual, I used all the free Internet use (50 hrs/sem) and have to ask some of my classmates that doesn’t use their free Internet usage to let me use it, since they paid miscellaneous for it so they did allow me.
To cut the whole story short, I am really addicted to it. I am not the only one that is, in fact, there are a lot younger than I am addicted to it. Whether it’s an online game, surfing, blogging, networking, etc…They are all online activities that most people get to be addicted.
Is it good or bad?
Everything that’s too much is bad. Plus the fact on how you use it, good or bad purpose? I should say, children should be guided. They can get information that they shouldn’t know until certain age, like pornography and stuff…
Also, remember that Internet is just a tool for communication as they call it “Highway Communication/Tool”. Meaning, man should control it, not man being life controlled by it. Limitations should always be present to avoid what should not, what’s bad to happen. Instead, use the tool to be productive like, spreading good news it is media, basically use it for a greater purpose rather than greed.
Habits can be good or bad, and its better to have the good habits using Internet. What about you? Do you agree or not? What do you think about this?
