3 Tips on How to Shop When Backpacking?

Traveling around different places is awesome not just because you get to meet a lot of people and be face to face with different cultures but also heaven for shopaholics.  See, most people traveling and coming from different places including myself, are tempted to buy things that we know we can’t find in our country and therefore does not want to miss the chance of buying the item.

In the long run, you won’t notice you have accumulated unnecessary things along the way and the next problem would be, how will you carry all your stuff?  When backpacking, we tend to carry one big backpack and a small one(that’s normal).  That would give us a good time to think what should you do? In the first place, you should know travel packing tips to minimize the rose of this problem.  But in case its too late for that, here are the tips on how to shop when backpacking.

3 Tips on How to Shop When Backpacking?

Ask yourself how much you need it. Do not fall for your great impulse  buying just anything you like or you’ll end up regretting you bought it in the end. Buy only what you need.

Plan a budget for shopping and stick to it. Backpacking is budget traveling and for whatever reason you are doing it, you should at least try to abstain luxury to get the purpose of backpacking.

Haggle politely. Depending on where you are, it is good to try bargaining to save a little.  In Southeast Asia, haggling is part of everything but make sure to haggle or decline politely when you do have to. I have to remind shoppers that. 🙂

See, I am sharing this to you because I have to learn it the hard way.  Traveling light is very rewarding, less baggage, less stress, better travels.  This is my second time backpacking and the first time was excusable, so was my second time as it wasn’t planned(I decided to start backpacking after my work pass was rejected in Singapore, so  I am carrying my luggage with all my work clothes and stuff! believe me, its not fun and it is somehow embarrassing especially border crossing).  Hopefully, if everything works out for the travel plans next year then the lesson should be implemented when traveling.
